| Title | The Research and Implementation of Target Tracking System with Passive Infrared Sensor Network |
| Abstract | Target tracking is one of the most important applications of wireless sensor networks, which can be used in many fields such as battlefield surveillance, military training, traffic management, assets tracking, etc. These systems can be classified as active or passive ones. The active systems, in which the object transmits unique signals to cooperate with the network, always suffer some limitations. Contrast this with passive ones, sensors detect the inherent characteristic singal of the object. Therefore, the passive systems can be applied in more situation than the active ones. This thesis describes the research and implementation of a target tracking system with passive infrared sensor, including the model of tracking process, the implementation of the wireless infrared sensor, and implementation of gateway of sensor networks to wireless mesh network.Firstly, we propose the planar geometry model of the target tracking according to the theory of infrared rediation and fresnel lens.Then we advance a new tracking method named PITM, which acuqires the speed and location of the object with the infrared sensor network. We validate the method by simulating, and the simulation results show that with the density of 16 sensors in 1000m2 and the detection range above 12m, the average position error of PITM is about 0.2m. Secondly, we design a kind of wireless infrared sensor named PIRMote for rangging targets based Micaz node. We tested the PIRMote outdoor and it can detect the walking people within 12 meters and some vehicles. Finially, we propose the frame of the tracking system that consist of two networks, one is the wireless infrared sensor network, the other is wireless video networks. We impelement the wireless mesh network as backbone which connets different kinds of subnet. The sensor networks can be accessed through the gateway of the mesh, providing much more convenience than the wired means. |
